our story…

Hi, we are Ebben and Maddy! We began Sediment as a tribute to Ebben’s grandparents multi-generational lobstering business. Freddie (Finn) and Debbie Howarth are long-time island residents. The two began Finn’s Fish Market in 1972, just one year after they got married. While raising two children they opened Finn’s Seafood Restaurant in 1977. Debbie managed the restaurant while Freddie set out in the mornings to haul the lobster traps. Somehow, sixty years has gone by since Freddie set his first lobster trap. Thousands of lobsters, and three generations later, Freddie is passing the torch to his grandson Ebben.

Sediment is committed to honoring our oceans, and encouraging connection between local seafood and the Block Island community. We are so grateful for you.
